In view of the finite quality of recreational spaces in Sai Ying Pun, Wheel Thing Makers (WTM) was invited by MaD under its seasonal scheme The University of Play to rejuvenate the tedious passageway of Sheung Fung Lane into an inclusive playable lane for all.With our overarching vision of “Community of Practice”, we led 21 enthusiastic young participants to undertake profile research of Sai Ying Pun and priorities the urban design issues in Sheung Fung Lane.
Collaborating with our overseas facilitator Plan b and tapping on the local wisdom of Magic Lanes, we thrilled and stimulated the participants to channel their design-thinking, prototyping their creative imaginations to create four playable installations for the daily users of Sheung Fung Lane. These installations were exhibited at the lane from December 2018 to January 2019. One of them was so popular that it has remained and became part of the lane since then.
