How Making On Loft Started

Beginning of our Journey
紅蘋果有落 - Our first mobile device
土瓜灣乜乜乜 (Tokwawan bla bla bla) was an information-graphics and mobile-installation work presented within 《紅蘋果有落 — 土瓜灣社區藝術收成展》, a To Kwa Wan community arts exhibition ran in To Kwa Wan, culminated the first, approximately year-long To Kwa Wan Community Builder Programme, which began in mid-2014 under Community Cultural Concern (CCC). Initiated by Garfield and Natalie, they made mobile installation, info-graphics, and stated purpose was to communicate accessible information about To Kwa Wan’s past, present, and future, especially to local residents in order to foster understanding of community development, belonging and connection.

CITYHOW is to show how an ordinary place, object or friction in Hong Kong everyday life reveals who gets to belong, rest, move, work, play and be heard in the city. It's not only a show people enjoy and recommend, but also a programme that turns listening into local knowledge, participation and small collective social action.

The studio is physically anchored on the roof floor in the On Lok (安樂) Factory Building in To Kwa Wan, Kowloon. Its name is a creative spatial and linguistic pun: by conceptually transforming "On Lok" (meaning peace and happiness) into "On Loft," the founders established a symbolic link between their physical workspace—a traditional industrial loft—and their mission to inject creative, joyful making into local communities (hence, "樂在製造" or "joy in manufacturing")
